The aim of our Literacy-led curriculum is to create learning which is engaging and exciting to the pupils at Frederick Bird. Each year group will start each half term’s learning with a ‘hook’ to fully immerse the children into the theme.
This could be a school trip or an in school workshop by an external provider. Our integrated afternoons will provide coverage for the National curriculum expectations in a way that encourages creativity, independence and deeper thinking. It will also challenge the more able pupils in our school and cater for personal needs and learning styles.
The integrated afternoons will also provide cross-curricular links to our Talk for Writing in Literacy and meaningful application to key skills in maths. During each unit of work, pupils will engage in half a day of work to create a display linked to the theme and end the unit by creating an ‘express’ to showcase their learning.
