Will you be visiting my child’s Nursery setting?

In our normal transition we do try to visit every child in their Nursery setting.  However, in the current situation this is not possible.  We will do our best to speak to all the Nurseries over the phone to get more information about your child and ensure we know every we need to ready for September.

Will my child get a home visit from their teacher?

Again, in our normal transition we will do our best to try and visit every child at their home. We find these visits to be one of the most valuable parts of our school transition as the child gets to meet the teacher in their own home where they feel safe.

However, with the current Covid 19 it is highly unlikely a home visit will be able to take place. As soon as we have any other information, we will let you know.

What will my child need on their first day of school?

The only thing your child needs to bring to school is their book bag.  You can purchase a book bag from the school office or at Cat Ballou in town. All other resources are provided in school so your child does not need their own pencil case.

What school uniform do I need?

At Frederick Bird our school uniform is as follows:

  • Blue sweatshirt or cardigan with school logo
  • Plain white polo shirt
  • Plain grey or plain black school trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore
  • Black school shoes

Other than the sweatshirts or cardigans which need the school logo, you do not have to buy the uniform from any set shop.  You can buy polo shirts, trousers, dresses and skirts from the supermarkets.

Will my child need a P.E. Kit?

We do P.E once a week in Early Years so yes your child will need a P.E. kit.  They will need:

  • Plain black shorts or jogging bottoms
  • Plain white T-shirt
  • Black pumps

This will need to be in a PE bag. We will not be doing PE for the first few weeks and we will give you notice so do not feel you need to bring this the first day your child starts school.

Do I have to pay for school dinners?

Currently all infant aged children (4-7 year olds) are entitled to a universal free school meal every day. We will ask you to fill in a Free school meal form. Children are also able to bring in their own packed lunch from home if they wish.

Do I need to provide my child with a snack?

The school is currently supplied with a range of fruit every day. We ask you do not give your child a snack for school.

When will I know which class my child is in?

In our normal transition period, the children find out which class they are in on the transition day. However, due to the current situation, the transition day won’t go ahead this side of term. We take time to create the classes, we like to talk to parents and nursery staff before putting the children into classes. We are unsure what transition will look like, so we will update you on this at a later point.
