This week in assembly, Years 5 and 6 have been learning about the Buddhist festival of Wesak, which is also called Buddha day. Buddha is a man who helps the poor and brings happiness. Wesak is celebrated on the full moon in May and celebrates kindness, happiness and how lucky we are. Buddhists decorate their homes with beautiful light decorations and Buddha statues. They also make paper lanterns to share happiness and kindness to their family. One of the year 6 children, Kelly Beckwith, is a Buddhist and has kindly shared a photo of her and her brother James celebrating in their home.
