On Wednesday 17th June, Ruth Eastham came to Frederick Bird Primary School. Year 5 and 6 were lucky enough to meet her and listen to extracts of her books. The children also took part in informative workshops. Year 6 Discussed their earliest memories and wrote a piece of descriptive writing about it. She also announced her new book ‘The Jaguar Trials’. Many children purchased a signed copy of her books for the reduced price of £5.

The morning began with an assembly for Years 5 and 6, where Ruth talked to the children about the steps to success of writing a story and how to edit and improve our writing. Many quizzes and games were involved in the assembly, and the teachers were also encouraged to join in on the fun. She also talked about how she came up with her book covers. Ruth told the pupils that she wanted to make the atmosphere come alive on the front cover.

Year 5 were able to attend a workshop where they wrote a diary entry on what it was like in World War 2, as they are currently reading ‘The Messenger Bird’, Ruth’s 2nd book. They talked about Bletchley Park and the working conditions. Ruth gave them information sheets to boost their knowledge, which helped them to complete their work.

In conclusion, Year 5 and 6 were very lucky and had an amazing time talking and learning with Ruth. We Would like to say a big thank you to her for coming in and sharing her knowledge.
